Georgian Bay Reads 2022
Every year, for the past thirteen years, five libraries in the southern Georgian Bay region of Ontario have put on an event called Georgian Bay Reads, modelled after the popular Canada Reads program found on CBC. Each library chooses a champion, and each champion chooses a book of Canadian literature to defend as the best book for all the residents of South Georgian Bay to read that year. This year, Annie Schiefer, a Board member for the Collingwood Public Library, has chosen On Foot to Canterbury. The event will be held at the new Stayner branch of the Clearview Public Library on Saturday, October 22 at 7 pm, and you can find more information by clicking here.

This event is especially dear to my heart because I was a debater the very first year it was held, and I championed Robertson Davies' novel Fifth Business. Thirteen years later, I'm back, but not as a defender, but as one of the featured authors. It's a wonderful evening, celebrating Canadian literature and the wonderful work that public libraries do in our communities. I'm honoured that my book was chosen in 2022. Thanks Annie. Best of luck to you and to all of the defenders.
